Godswill Akpabio, the president of the Senate, has reiterated the National Assembly’s support for the establishment of Anioma State, stating that the plan has substantial legislative support.

Akpabio made the statement while speaking to party members at the All Progressives Congress (APC) South-South Zonal Congress, which was taking place in Asaba, Delta State.

The Senate President stated that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is still dedicated to the effort and that the 10th Senate has continued to consider it.

He claimed that the establishment of Anioma State would result in more effective administration, balanced growth, and better governance in the area.

According to Akpabio, if the plan is approved, Asaba would become the capital of the new Anioma State and Warri would be the capital of the reorganized Delta State.

He pointed out that Warri already has important infrastructure that qualifies it for this kind of position.

He claims that the city contains a stadium, a seaport, government buildings, large oil firms, and an airport.

“Anioma State will be established, with Asaba serving as its capital.” According to Akpabio, “the Senate fully supports the initiative led by Senator Ned Nwoko.”

“All of the constituent communities will enter a new age of growth and wealth as a result of this action. Asaba will serve as the capital of Anioma State, while Warri will serve as the new Delta’s capital.

A number of well-known political figures from the area attended the convention.

Along with other South-South zone leaders and party stakeholders, the governors of the states of Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Cross River were among those in attendance.

According to Akpabio, the movement to establish Anioma State is historically valid because it represents a long-standing desire of the populace.

According to him, the plan is based on the ideas of balanced development, decentralization, and equity.

Additionally, Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents the Delta North Senatorial District, was recognized by the Senate President for his support of the project.

Nwoko revealed in November 2025 that the National Assembly’s Anioma State establishment movement had acquired considerable traction.

He claimed that a document backing the idea had already been signed by 97 senators, calling the amount of support extraordinary.

He claims that as part of more comprehensive reforms, constitutional amendment committees are already examining the suggestion.
