Mahdi Shehu, a social critic and activist, has asserted that if President Bola Tinubu manages to free former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu from a prison in the United Kingdom (UK), the Igbos will eventually be apprehended.

Shehu reportedly claimed in a post on 𝕏 that Tinubu’s abrupt decision to form a powerful committee to discuss Ekweremadu’s incarceration with the UK government was motivated more by political strategy in advance of the 2027 general elections than by sympathy.

Shehu pointed out that Tinubu’s choice was made in spite of Nigeria’s current absence of a significant ambassador to the UK, who, in his opinion, could have managed the situation more skillfully through conventional diplomatic channels.

He went on to say that numerous Nigerians who have been found guilty and are being held in various jails around the world will not be given Ekweremadu’s attention because Tinubu won’t value them politically after they are released.

“The UK legal system is almost impenetrable,” he declared. The chance to find a solution to the Ekweremadu problem was already gone.

Since the election is coming up and Ekweremadu is the only visible Ndi-igbo who is not on “THE TRAIN” from Bombay to Goa, I believe Tinubu is using the Jamboree trip to demonstrate his worry and concern. And Ndi-igbo will be apprehended at last with him on board.

“Ekweremadu would never pay attention to other Nigerians who have been convicted or are incarcerated in different parts of the world because, even if they are freed, Tinubu will not value them politically. This is the obvious calculation error.
