The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would not support President Bola Tinubu’s reelection in 2027, according to Daboikiabo Warmate, a prominent member of the party.

In an interview with Trust TV, Warmate reportedly stated that Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), made the personal decision to back Tinubu.

Warmate, who zoned the presidency to the South, requested that the PDP produce its own candidate.

He declared, “The FCT Minister’s support for President Tinubu is merely a personal stance.” The party’s stance is not the issue.

The PDP’s stance is that a presidential candidate will be chosen from the top. Therefore, neither the current president of the APC nor the presidential candidate are being considered.

“As a party, we will choose our candidate. According to Wike’s stance, it is his own opinion and he is entitled to have it.

“But what PDP stands for is for us to produce a credible candidate from the south, considering what caused this crisis and zoning the presidency to the south.”

Meanwhile, the PDP’s National Executive Committee, led by the Tanimu Turaki National Working Committee, and the Board of Trustees, presided over by Adolphus Wabara, are holding an emergency meeting at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.

The purpose of the conference, which is the third of its kind this week, is to settle internal party conflicts, especially those related to the proposed national convention that the caretaker committee led by Abdulrahman Mohamed has suggested.

The focus of discussions, according to party leaders, has been on efforts to bring the PDP’s opposing groups together.

At a similar meeting on Wednesday, Turaki revealed that the group led by him was still amenable to reconciliation and pointed out that talks to end the crisis were making encouraging headway.
