Nasiru Gawuna, the chairman of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) Governing Board, has resigned.

Former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and former All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Gawuna are apparently getting ready to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), according to Naija News.

According to sources Daily Nigerian stated, the formal defection is anticipated to occur on Tuesday.

Gawuna stated in a resignation letter dated March 27, 2026, that his decision is effective immediately and complies with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s order that political appointees retire in accordance with the Electoral Act prior to upcoming elections.

He said, “My resignation is in strict compliance with the President’s directive requiring all political appointees to step down in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act.”

Gawuna expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for allowing him to lead the FMBN governing board.

He claimed that the role allowed him to support the expansion of the organization and the advancement of the country.

He characterized his employment as an honor that enabled him to contribute to bolstering the bank’s operations and promoting housing construction in Nigeria.

The outgoing chairman of the board promised to guarantee a seamless transition by transferring responsibilities in accordance with established protocols.

He went on to say that he was leaving his plans for the future to God.

He declared, “I put my future in Allah’s (SWT) hands while seeking divine guidance for my next steps.”

Gawuna had officially resigned from the APC prior to leaving the FMBN board, a move that was widely seen as a component of the political realignments ahead of the general elections in 2027.
