Rep. Philip Agbese, the member of the House of Representatives who represents the Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency, has been proclaimed the unchallenged leader of the Benue State Labour Party (LP).

The Labour Party in Benue State welcomed Agbese’s recent defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a statement signed by Comr. Aluh Moses Odeh, Director of Media and Public Affairs. The party positioned Agbese as the natural leader because he is the highest elected political office holder from the state under the LP banner.

The statement stated, “Rep. Agbese, being the highest political office holder, becomes the leader of the party in the state by party convention and rules all over the world.”

The Benue LP distanced itself from any organizations attempting to undermine the party, whether they were legitimate, fraudulent, or purportedly supported by outside forces.

After the general elections in 2023, the party reported that it had reached its lowest point, with many members departing since the national leadership at the time did not support them.

Odeh claimed that talks with Hon. Philip Agbese, who was thought to have the charm and ability to revitalize the party before 2027, were later initiated.

Thus, Agbese’s arrival has drawn new members and serious candidates for the 2027 elections, according to the Benue Labour Party.

Odeh expressed optimism that the party is now ready to take on the ruling APC and surprise everyone in Benue.

The statement further stated, “Anyone claiming leadership of the LP in Benue State other than Hon. Philip Agbese is acting in defiance of the Supreme Court judgment affirming Senator Esther Nenadi Usman as National Chairman.”

“The Benue State Labour Party got an instant boost when Hon. We now have Philip Agbese among us. His arrival provided us the energy and assurance that, God willing, our party is ready to pull off a huge surprise in 2027.

“Hon. Philip Agbese is the head of our party in Benue State; there is no disagreement. In violation of the Supreme Court’s ruling, those promoting lies to the contrary are merely doing so to stroke their egos.

The Benue LP declared its complete commitment and allegiance to Senator Esther Nenadi Usman’s national leadership, characterizing her rise as the result of the party’s common will.

“Hon. Agbese promises to change the party’s fortunes because of his unique blend of experience, intelligence, and grassroots appeal.

He is now the focal point of all progressive forces looking for real change in the state because of his smooth integration, which has not only raised spirits but also created new chances and partnerships.

Senator Usman’s unwavering dedication to party unity and constitutional order continues to inspire trust within the Labour Party hierarchy.

“The Benue chapter views her as the genuine anchor capable of guiding the party towards victory and sustained growth in the upcoming years, and her visionary leadership at the national level has earned her profound respect and total allegiance.”
