Aisha Yesufu, a political activist, has claimed that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) leadership was removed by bribery of INEC officials.
Yesufu made these remarks on Monday during a live interview on “Prime Time” on Arise Television.
According to the BringBackOurGirls Movement co-convener, there are rumors that the INEC Chairman was intimidated into taking action.
Recall that former Senate President David Mark was recently removed from his position as the party’s national chairman by INEC.
Yesufu expressed her personal perspective, saying, “There are reports that INEC officials were allegedly bribed with money up to $50,000 and lands were given.” What role do the ICPC and EFCC play in this?
The judiciary has become a tool for dishonest politicians. And that’s not how it ought to be. There are locations where homes are being constructed for them, where meetings of various kinds take place, and so forth. Then we’re all concerned about that.
“In my opinion, one institution ought to be autonomous, and if you have such institutions, it shouldn’t be the one where people are being threatened.
“We wouldn’t be experiencing all of these antics if there was independence, accountability, and transparency.
“Let’s all go to court and have whatever is there, but it disturbs us and our country’s democracy when you see that the judiciary and other institutions have become eager tools of tyranny against opposition parties.
“We cannot have a few people come and destroy this democracy just because they want to hang on to power that they are not deserving of,” Yesufu said. “Many people died for this democracy so that we have what we have today.”
