In Katsina State, two police officers were slain when suspected armed bandits ambushed a police vehicle and stole their service firearms.

According to a post on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama, police sources revealed that the event happened on April 7, 2026, at approximately 5:50 p.m. in Sabon Garin Garu hamlet in the state’s Musawa Local Government Area.

A prominent bandit commander known as Muhammadu was allegedly connected to the attackers, who were apparently in huge numbers and riding on roughly thirty motorcycles.

Five members of the Police Mobile Force (27 PMF) were reportedly traveling through Katsina State from Zamfara State when the criminals ambushed their vehicle.

Police tactical personnel, including patrol units and neighborhood watch organizations, responded quickly, forcing the attackers to retreat after a gunfight.

During the firefight, three of the cops were saved unharmed.

Two officers, however, were killed in the assault. Sgt. Bilyaminu Babangida and PC Abdulaziz Musa were identified.

Additionally, the attackers took a riot gunner and the officers’ service guns.

“The officers’ service rifles and a riot gunner were also taken away by the attackers,” the insider claimed.

Later, police reinforcements from Dutsinma, Kankia, Matazu, and Kankara were sent in to block escape routes, and cordon-and-search operations are still in progress to find the suspects and retrieve the stolen weapons.

Security personnel said they had stepped up efforts to bring peace back to the area and stop more attacks along the axis.
