Due to unpaid salaries, the UNIJOS chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced an indefinite strike.

According to reports, the decision was made on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, following complaints from academics on their failure to receive their March income and the lack of Earned Academic Allowance.

All members were instructed by the union to abstain from lectures, exams, and official meetings as of right now.

According to the branch leadership, the action was approved by the union’s local congress and National Executive Council.

The union claims that although members had been waiting for a while in the hopes that the problem would be fixed, nothing had changed.

“As our salary for the month of March 2026 has not yet been paid despite our patience, we hereby request all members to abstain from lectures, the conduct of exams, and statutory meetings after following due process,” the statement stated.

The academics stated that since the bursary department had previously finished their portion, the results indicated that the delay did not originate from within the university.

The issue was connected to the Federation’s Office of the Accountant General, which they hold accountable for the money release delay.

The union also cautioned that as members are getting weary of constant delays, the situation might have an impact on systemic harmony. It further stated that its monitoring team would start working to guarantee that every lecturer completely complies with the strike order.
