The persistent volatility inside political parties, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been attributed by Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro to the behavior of party members rather than external factors.
In an interview with ARISE News on Thursday, Moro contended that the PDP and other parties of a similar nature are mostly responsible for their own problems. He emphasized that important individuals like legislators, party leaders, and governors are crucial in causing and exacerbating these problems.
“I think political actors bear the majority of the blame,” he stated, clarifying that the seeming discord within parties is a result of their internal dynamics.
He further underlined that the problem is primarily the fault of people in positions of authority, such as elected politicians and prominent party figures.
In response to rumors that the PDP is divided into sections, Moro insisted that the party is still one cohesive whole.
“There is only one PDP,” he firmly declared.
Moro also thought back to past internal disputes, especially the contentious Ibadan convention. He pointed out that the fact that the event was held in contravention of a court order that forbade it made the party’s challenges more intense.
He claims that the Court of Appeal subsequently declared the convention to be illegal, nullifying its conclusions.
