Nafiu Bala Gombe, the factional National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has said that people over 55 will not be able to run for political office in the party he leads.

Gombe told BBC Hausa about his vision for generational change and more young people getting involved in politics during an interview.

“The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is a party that all Nigerians can join. What we’re doing now is making sure the party moves forward in the right way.

“We’ve made the decision to give the young people a real chance. Young people need to take charge of politics now.

“You won’t be able to run for office in the ADC if you’re over 55 years old and we’re in charge.

“We want to get new people, new ideas, and energy from young people. The young people of Nigeria will shape the country’s future.

“The country hasn’t done well with the old ways. He said, “We need to make it easy for young people to run for office, lead, and make decisions.”
