Grok, an AI assistant made by xAI, has confirmed that Joash Amupitan, the head of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), owns the controversial X account. This suggests that he is involved in partisan politics.

It was said that there were a lot of claims on social media recently saying that the head of INEC had a personal account on X and had used it to support or comment on a political post.

Our reporter found out that the disputed account with ID 1567086242164101120 was supposedly made in 2022, before he became INEC Chairman.

In a statement, the commission said that the INEC boss does not have a personal account on X, but people on the internet have kept looking for old posts from the account.

To be clear, Bashir Ahmad, who worked as a media aide for the president in the last administration, asked grok to check the claims.

He says, “Hi @Grok, for the sake of openness, what was the original name of the X account with ID: 1567086242164101120? Was it made in September 2022, and then changed to joashamupitan in November 2025?”

The AI said, “The X account ID 1567086242164101120 was made on September 6, 2022, with the username joashamupitan.”

Grok says, “Public reports and account tracking show that was its username from the time it was made until April 10, 2026, when it was changed to Sundayvibe00.”

An X user named @Normalyzed said, “At this point, the Nigerian Senate should call the INEC chairman to come before it.” There are receipts all over the news.

Another person, @White_Superion, said, “Bashir Ahmad just set up the INEC chairman in an indirect way.”

“Like most people who wanted him out because of his religious beliefs.” Bashir wants him to quit, but as a loyal party member, he doesn’t know how to do it.

“This opportunity comes with this previous post. Still, @BashirAhmaad had to rely on Grok to speak his mind without upsetting the party.

“Bashir wants him out for religious reasons, not because he is loyal to the APC.” “Know this and know peace.”
