Aminu Tambuwal, who used to be the governor of Sokoto State, says that President Bola Tinubu is making opposition parties weaker before the 2027 general election.

Tambuwal made the claim while talking to reporters after the African Democratic Congress (ADC) state congress in Sokoto.

He said that Tinubu was using the same tricks that the late Gen. Sani Abacha used to become the only candidate in a democratic election.

He said that the President’s political goal was to make sure that no opposition party stays stable.

The former governor of Sokoto said that the presidency was purposely making problems worse within rival parties to help the APC.

Tambuwal warned against going back to a “one-party dominance by design,” referring to the controversial transition program during Abacha’s rule when all political parties supported him.

He said that the ruling government had hurt opposition parties like the Labour Party (LP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to make the larger opposition coalition weaker.

He says that these kinds of actions put Nigeria’s multi-party democracy at risk.

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives also said that the government was making Nigeria’s socioeconomic problems worse by making it less safe and increasing poverty and unemployment.

He was hopeful about the ADC’s future, calling it a credible alternative that could “save Nigeria from bad government.”
