Rauf Aregbesola, the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), talked on Tuesday about why the party lost the Anambra State governorship election and the Federal Capital Territory area council polls.
Reports say that Aregbesola spoke at the party’s national convention, which is still going on.
The former governor of Osun State said that the party didn’t do well in the elections for a number of reasons.
Aregbesola said, “Our party took part in the 2025 Anambra State and the February 26 FCT local government election.”
“We didn’t win for a number of reasons, such as the fact that our opponents used their power as incumbents, made money off of the election process, and abused state power.”
Aregbesola also talked about problems within the party, such as not having enough money and not being ready to organize.
He said, “On our side, we had problems with money and our structure wasn’t ready.”
Even though things didn’t go as planned, Aregbesola said the party had learned important things from the elections and was getting ready for future ones.
He went on to say, “But we have learned from these lessons and are ready for the upcoming governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states.”
People remembered that the APC won 5 of the 6 seats in the FCT Area Council elections, leaving the last one to the PDP.
