The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has told its newly elected state executives and other officials to stay out of the office until they are officially sworn in.

The party said the order was needed to avoid confusion and make sure the change of leadership went smoothly.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, said on Friday that the new officials’ terms had not yet begun.

He said, “The terms of all newly elected state executives and other party officers will not begin until the current executives’ terms end and the party formally swears them in on May 12, 2026, or on any later date that may be officially communicated.”

He also said that the current leaders will stay in charge until the transition is over.

Abdullahi also said, “To be clear, all current executives will continue to be the Party’s official officers until this constitutional transition process is over.”

The party warned new officials, especially those at the state level, not to do things that could cause tension or set up parallel structures.

The statement went on to say, “Therefore, all newly elected executives, especially at the state level, should be aware of this clear constitutional directive and not do anything, say anything, or act in a way that could go against it or cause confusion within the Party structure.”

The ADC said again that it would follow its own rules and be disciplined.

It said, “The ADC is still committed to order, discipline, and strict adherence to its constitution and democratic processes.”

The party said that the new executives will be sworn in on May 12, 2026, or later if that date is officially announced.
