The Presidency says that the power supply in Nigeria is better now than it was in the past, especially in 2015 and 2023.
Daniel Bwala, the President’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, talked about this during an interview on Arise TV. He talked about the changes that are happening in the power sector.
He says that many Nigerians are already having an easier time getting electricity since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took office.
Bwala said, “Electricity availability is slowly getting better in different parts of the country.”
He said that the government’s recent changes to the law and policy are helping to change the electricity industry and get more people involved.
He went on to say, “The changes being made are making the sector more open and giving rise to new ways to generate and distribute power.”
Bwala said that one of the biggest changes in the sector is that power is no longer just in the hands of the federal government.
He said that new laws let states, local governments, and private investors be more involved in making and distributing electricity.
“The new legal environment means that making and distributing power is no longer limited to the federal level. He said, “States and private operators now have clearer authority to invest and grow supply.”
He also said that the reforms’ goal is to make the sector less centralized and get more people involved in solving Nigeria’s long-standing electricity problems.
Bwala said that the sector still has problems, but he is hopeful that things will keep getting better.
People all over Nigeria are upset about how bad the power supply is. Many states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), still have power that goes out and comes back on again.
For example, a lot of the FCT only gets a few hours of electricity a day, which makes taxpayers unhappy.
