Habib Mai-Lemo, the Kwankwasiyya Movement’s spokesperson, says that a joint presidential ticket with Mr. Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso would be a big problem for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
Mai-Lemo said this in response to questions about the strength of the Kwankwasiyya Movement on Trust TV. This was during a time when supporters were pushing for a political alliance between Obi and Kwankwaso online.
He said that both politicians have a lot of support from regular people in different parts of the country, calling their followers “organic” and able to change the outcome of elections.
He said that this kind of alliance could help bring together people from different political and regional backgrounds, especially those from the North and the South-East, and it could also boost support in the southern part of the country.
Mai-Lemo said that previous attempts to form a similar alliance before the 2023 general election did not work out, but he still thinks the idea is good.
He said that if the two political leaders worked together with support from leaders in other areas, it would change the country’s political landscape in a big way.
He said, “I believe we need to be very realistic.” We need to realize that we have seen what alliances can do. Sometimes you need to look at the real world in order to get what you want.
“Like I said, everyone in the country now knows that Peter Obi and Kwankwaso are the only ones with real followers.” Those followers are ready to go. In fact, there are many ways it can help.
“It will help us bring together northern and eastern Nigeria with the whole southern part of the country.
“I think it’s easy to sell when the people inside are behind it.” And I think Tinubu’s ticket will be dead on arrival if Peter Obi and Kwankwaso work together with the help of all the leaders from the other side of the country.
