A Kaduna State High Court has pushed back the hearing of former governor Nasir El-Rufai’s bail request until the first week of June 2026.

Justice Darius Khobo is in charge of the case, and he set the new date during a hearing on Tuesday in Kaduna.

The ex-governor is facing a number of charges related to alleged abuse of office and financial misconduct. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission filed the charges against him.

Around 9 a.m., El-Rufai arrived at the courthouse in a convoy with officials from the anti-corruption agency and the Department of State Services. There was a lot of security around the court, and officers were in charge of who could move around in the area.

During the session, a lot of his supporters gathered outside the courtroom. Security staff kept an eye on things to make sure nothing went wrong.

After the hearing, Ukpon Akpan, his lawyer, said he was worried about the repeated delays in the bail application and said that politics were behind the situation.

When the court meets again in June, it is expected to continue hearing the case.

El-Rufai, on the other hand, has claimed that there is a new plan to link him to crimes. He has warned of what he calls coordinated efforts to damage his reputation and keep him in jail for a long time.
