Troops arrest two suspected terrorists in Niger

Troops on patrol in the Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State as part of Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD have arrested two people who they think are terrorists.

Zagazola Makama, an expert on counterinsurgency and security in the Lake Chad area, said this in a statement on X.

Makama said that the troops at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Babanna caught the suspects at Babanna Market around 5:00 p.m. on April 20.

He said that the suspects had one round of 7.62mm special ammunition, two cell phones, and other random items.

The security expert also said that the suspects are currently in military custody for more investigation and any other necessary action.

Makama said, “The operation is part of ongoing efforts by security forces to stop terrorist activities and make the region safer.”
