Thousands of young people from Southern Borno have raised ₦38.5 million to help Senator Ali Ndume run for the Senate in 2027.

It was said that the fundraising event at Forshams Hall in Maiduguri on Saturday drew more than 2,000 people from all nine local government areas in the district.

The donors, mostly youth groups and community groups, said they were giving money to keep what they called a “fearless and people-driven legislator” in the Senate.

Babandi Shehu, the youth coordinator who led the effort, said that the intervention was not just a symbolic gesture but a planned political statement at a time when Nigeria needs brave leaders in government.

Senator Ndume has set himself apart as one of the few leaders who consistently speak truth to power, Shehu said.

“This isn’t just about funding forms; it’s about protecting representation that puts the people first and makes the executive accountable.”

Participants said that Ndume’s past work in both legislation and constituency development is why they all supported him so early on.

Ndume’s Senior Legislative Aide, Junaid Jibril Maiva, backed this up by talking about what he called a legacy of important service that lasted more than ten years.

He said that the senator has sponsored more than 70 bills that are important for the country’s growth. He has also helped set up important federal institutions in Southern Borno and the rest of the North-East.
