With only two weeks until the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Assembly primaries, people in the Abia Central Senatorial zone have asked the party’s leaders to back Sam Onuigbo for the 11th Senate.
From 2015 to 2023, Onuigbo was the representative for Ikwuano/Umuahia North and Umuahia South in the Eighth and Ninth House of Representatives. He was the one who wrote Nigeria’s Climate Change Act 2021.
After a meeting in Umuahia, Chief Augustine Anyaegbu and other representatives from the six Local Government Areas of Abia Central Senatorial District said they had met to carefully look at the backgrounds, track records, and political power of everyone who wants to represent the zone in the 11th Senate.
Chief Anyaegbu said, “We have therefore decided to advise the leadership of our great party, APC, to support the aspiration of Sir Sam Onuigbo for the monumental achievements he recorded as a member of the Green Chamber, among other lofty reasons.”
He said that no other APC leader in the zone has made the party as well-known on the national and international stage as Onuigbo has through his legislative skills. He also said that Onuigbo joined the party when it was very weak in the state.
Stakeholders say that APC should look for candidates in Abia State who have a winning aura and credentials that will help President Bola Tinubu’s candidacy.
“While other modern progressives were comfortable, Onuigbo joined the APC and kept supporting and promoting the party. So, Sir Sam Onuigbo has the right of first refusal for the Abia Central Senatorial ticket.
“It is also on record that Onuigbo limited himself to just two terms in the House of Representatives, even though there is no limit on how long lawmakers can serve. We are sure that Onuigbo will limit his time in the Senate because he has a history of being honest and fair.
“Eight years is more than enough time for any lawmaker who knows what they’re doing to make a difference by giving their constituents good representation.” “We are happy with Onuigbo’s work in the House of Representatives and how he has acted by promoting the benefits of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” the stakeholders said.
The stakeholders asked the party’s national leaders to avoid the temptation to promote a culture of “baboon-dey-work-monkey-dey-chop” in the APC. They also praised the party’s national chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, for promising members that visitors would not be allowed to put homeowners in the boys’ quarters.
