Mohammed Adamu Abubakar, a former Inspector General of Police (IGP) and a candidate for governor in Nasarawa State on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform, has accused the party of trying to sabotage the upcoming primaries through ward executives.

Abubakar said on Monday in Lafia, through his campaign team’s Chairman of Counter and Mobilisation, Isah Nathaniel, that there was a coordinated plan to pressure ward executives in all 147 wards of the state to support a certain candidate before the 2027 elections.

The candidate for governor said that what is being called “coordination” is really “political manipulation in its crudest form.” He said that what is being called “coordination” is really “a brazen attempt to hijack the will of party members and impose a predetermined outcome.”

The claim came just a few hours after Aliyu Bello, the party’s State Chairman, said that the leadership would make sure that all candidates had an equal chance during the primaries.

But Abubakar warned that using ward executives for a secret purpose could cause chaos in the party and hurt its chances in the 2027 elections, especially since stakeholders have agreed to use direct primaries for all elected positions.

He told President Bola Tinubu to pay attention to what was going on right away and do something about it to protect the party’s reputation in the state.

He also asked the party’s National Working Committee to step in right away to stop the “unfolding illegality and restore constitutional order.”

He told the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to stay on guard against any attempts to force outcomes through violence, saying that such attempts are a direct threat to public peace and should not be ignored.
