The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State is having more and more problems within its own ranks after Governor Abdullahi Sule named Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada as his top choice to replace him in the 2027 governorship election.

The decision, which was made public before the party’s official primary rules were released, has been criticized by important people who say that due process was not followed.

Former Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura is one of the most well-known people who said that he was not consulted or told about the endorsement or the presentation of Wadada to Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“I was never asked. “It’s too early, and due process has to be followed,” Al-Makura said, adding that he has no personal problem with the candidate who was endorsed.

Governor Sule has defended his decision despite the backlash, saying that the endorsement came after a lot of discussion and is in line with the state’s established political traditions.

Supporters of his, including members of the State House of Assembly led by Speaker Danladi Jatau, have also said they support Wadada and called for party unity.

But there is still a lot of opposition within the party.

Mohammed Adamu, who used to be the Inspector General of Police and is also running for the APC ticket, has turned down the endorsement. He says that the primary should be open and fair.

The situation has sparked more arguments about zoning and power rotation in the state, with different groups arguing over which district or constituency should choose the next governor.

Political experts say that if the disagreements aren’t handled carefully, they could make the party less united and hurt the APC’s chances in the 2027 elections.
