President Bola Tinubu has declared he will run for re-election in 2027, saying rising insecurity in some parts of the country would not push him out of office.
He said this when he received the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, and other stakeholders from the state.
Those who are trying to use the security situation against the administration are playing into the hands of our political opponents and hostile forces, the President said.
“You are playing into the hands of agents, including my own enemies, who want to use insecurity to get rid of me,” Tinubu said.
He said he was standing firm despite criticism of his administration over attacks, kidnappings and killings in parts of the country.
I’m a very stubborn politician. I won’t go. And I will run for my second term,” the President said.
Tinubu’s comments come amid renewed fears about attacks by armed groups, kidnappings and killings in several parts of the country.
Opposition figures and civil society groups have been consistently calling for stronger action by the Federal Government on insecurity.
The President has consistently backed his administration’s efforts, stating that security agencies are being supported to tackle threats and bring back stability to the country.
Tinubu assumed office in May 2023 and should serve his first term till 2027 when Nigerians will go to the polls for another presidential election.
