Federal Government Approves May 1 Holiday for Workers’ Celebration

The Federal Government has declared Friday, 1st of May, 2026, a public holiday to mark this year’s International Workers’ Day.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, confirmed this in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, on Wednesday.

Tunji-Ojo praised Nigerian workers for their hard work and dedication.

The statement read, “The Federal Government has declared Friday, 1st May 2026, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s International Workers Day.

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement on behalf of the Federal Government. This year he wished a happy celebration to workers all over the country.

’The Minister praised Nigerian workers for their dedication and hard work towards national development. He said their efforts are critical to the growth and prosperity of the nation.”
