A Nigerian man has protested at the national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, claiming the party abandoned him after he claimed to have sold his house while working for the party’s 2023 election campaigns.
The man was wearing an APC branded blue shirt and was holding a placard that said, “Reward me or kill me.”
A video of the protest circulated on Facebook Thursday night and was widely shared on 𝕏.
The man was seen pacing around the entrance of the APC secretariat, holding up his placard and shouting towards the building as security personnel and onlookers looked on.
“I sold my house because I felt obliged to APC,” he said. Because of the work I did for APC.”
When onlookers asked who had sent him he pointed at his APC-branded shirt and said, “These are the people that sent me.
He said his sacrifices were for the party’s 2023 general election campaigns and added that he had not been rewarded.
“This is the work I did for APC and at the end of it, no reward. “But the CSO threatened to shoot me and nothing will happen,” he said.
He also said that he could no longer afford to pay his children’s school fees and had left them in the care of the party’s Chief Security Officer.
“I don’t know where my children are since yesterday,” he said. I left my children with the CSO, APC because I can no longer care for them. “I am not able to pay school fees anymore.”
On the placard he carried were the words, “All Progressive Congress. Reward me or kill me.” I’m a party man, not a fool. I have given so much to the party. “I am depressed and my health has been impacted.
In the 30-second odd video, the man can be seen moving around the gate of the secretariat with the placard and looks visibly distressed.
In the footage, no APC official was seen talking to him.
At the time of filing this report, the APC had not issued an official statement on the incident.
