Elders from various communities in Bende local government have appealed to traditional rulers to urgently intervene in the political tension between their two sons, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu.

When the elders visited Eze Anthony Okorochukwu of Bende ancient kingdom, Bende LGA, they made the call.

The elders, led by the former Chairman of the local government area, Emmanuel Onwuchekwa, urged the monarchs to tell the former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, to end his rift with Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu and embrace peace.

They said the Deputy Speaker has no axe to grind with the ambition of Senator Kalu to contest for Senate in 2027 election at all.

“Ben is not preventing Senator Orji Uzor Kalu from contesting for Senate.

“They are running for two different offices. But why this level of hostility?

“We don’t want any war between Igbere and Bende. “We are fed up with this”, said the elders.
