Political Shake-Up As Gwarzo Exits ADC In Kano

Former Deputy Governor of Kano State Aminu Gwarzo has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

According to reports, Gwarzo resigned in a letter dated 1st of May, 2026 addressed to the Chairman of the ADC in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State.

In a letter received on May 4, the former deputy governor said his resignation from the party took effect immediately.

Gwarzo said his decision was a result of recent political developments and the need to re-evaluate his membership of the party in line with his political vision.

On his part, Kwankwaso said the decision was taken after consultations with his political allies, supporters and well-wishers across Kano State.

“The decision comes after deep reflection and wide consultations with my political associates, supporters and well wishers across the state,” he said.

He said the changing political scenario in the state and the country made it necessary for him to take a fresh political direction.

“Recent political developments and the changing political landscape have necessitated a review of my membership in the interest of the people and the future of our state and the nation,” he said.

“The patriotic considerations, the desire to pursue a political path that is consistent with my values, are the reasons I resigned,” he said.

“My decision is guided by patriotic considerations and the imperative to follow a political path that is consistent with my vision for good governance, democratic values and sustainable development of our dear state, he added.

Gwarzo said his future political activities would be steered by his commitment to good governance, democratic ideals and the development of Kano State.

He said that despite his resignation, he appreciated the leadership and members of the ADC for the support they gave him while he was in the party.

“I wish to appreciate the leadership and members of the party for the cooperation, respect and support I enjoyed during my stay in the party,” he said.

As at the time of filing this report, the former deputy governor did not announce his next political move.
