Omoyele Sowore, a human rights advocate and former African Action Congress presidential candidate, has demanded that Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North, be immediately suspended and arrested on charges ranging from illegal detention and abuse of state security agencies to cross-border sex trafficking.

In a video posted on his 𝕏 account on Sunday, Sowore made the demand, stating that the situation went far beyond the purported unlawful arrest of Samuel Ojeogwu, also known as Sammy West, Regina Daniels’ brother.

“The outcry surrounding Senator Ned Nwoko goes far beyond the unlawful detention of his now-estranged wife, Regina Daniels’ brother, Sammy West,” he declared. What we are seeing is a part of a bigger, alarming trend involving the abuse of state power and the international exploitation of young girls.

Sowore claimed that Nwoko has a lengthy history of violating human rights with the help of Nigeria Police Force agents, whom he referred to as “now-disgraced” personnel serving as the lawmaker’s “private enforcers.”

“This so-called billionaire was just throwing people in prison,” he claimed. Upon arriving at the prison, we discovered nine individuals who had been imprisoned by the same Ned Nwoko from his town.

Sowore went on to say that Nwoko had previously “hijacked” a woman’s father after a disagreement and that multiple families had openly accused the Senator of oppressing them with the police.

“Our duty, first and foremost, is to hold anybody who is a public figure, who is in political office, to account, no matter how powerful they are,” he said.

Additionally, the activist charged the Senator with “international sex trafficking crimes,” claiming that he trafficked minors into Nigeria from Morocco and other nations.

He made it clear that his intervention was intended to address what he called the widespread misuse of police and political authority, not to defend Regina Daniels.

“I’m not fighting for Regina Daniels,” Sowore declared. I am battling against the misuse of power by a Nigerian senator who has a history of using the police to oppress people and is conspiring with the Nigerian police.

He mentioned the detention of TikToker Timothy Gabriel (Turmar), who made allegations regarding Regina Daniels’ offspring.

“The Senator obtained the Nigerian police, had Turmar arrested, and sent him to prison,” he claimed. He had been severely beaten and had to apologize when he came out.

He also described his personal encounter with nine prisoners in 2021 who were supposedly imprisoned at Nwoko’s request due to a property dispute involving the Senator’s Sports University project.

Sowore accused the Nigeria Police Force of encouraging Nwoko’s behavior.

“Ned has a huge amount of support from the Nigerian police,” he declared. Every day, they visit his home to dine. The Nigerian police should be ashamed for selling their force for free.

The activist stated that the fight against impunity and human rights abuses ingrained in Nigeria’s political and security institutions was the source of his appeal for accountability.
