A former banker and economist, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has emerged as the first presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to formally submit completed nomination forms ahead of the party’s presidential primary for the 2027 election.
Hayatu-Deen was the first aspirant to get the party’s expression of interest and nomination documents and he further cemented his early lead in the race when he submitted the forms in Abuja on Wednesday evening.
The development marks the start of increased political activities within the ADC as the countdown to the 2027 general elections gains momentum.
Addressing supporters shortly after submitting the forms, Hayatu-Deen said his ambition was driven by the urgent need to tackle Nigeria’s worsening economic challenges and insecurity.
He said his administration, if voted into power, would work to lower the rising cost of living, create jobs and restore safety in the country.
His government would focus on “aggressively lowering the skyrocketing cost of living,” he said, while also unveiling “a clear roadmap for mass job creation.”
The presidential hopeful promised to unveil “a strategic plan to end insecurity across the federation.”
Hayatu-Deen’s early moves may position him as one of the leading contenders in the ADC ahead of the party’s primary election. The party is expected to see increased political activities in the coming weeks as more aspirants are expected to declare interest in the presidential race.
According to reports, the opposition party has been garnering attention recently amid political realignments and coalition talks ahead of the 2027 polls, with several top politicians across party lines reportedly exploring alliances on its platform.
