The Lagos State Police Command has reiterated its resolve to partner with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to ensure peaceful and credible elections in Lagos State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, after a courtesy visit by officials of the INEC to the Command Headquarters in Ikeja.
The statement said that the INEC delegation was led by the Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Abayomi Salami and was received by the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai.
Salami congratulated the police commissioner on his recent appointment and called for the continued partnership and support of the command as preparations for the 2027 elections began to gather pace.
The electoral body said the need for continuous partnership with security agencies in ensuring peaceful, free, fair and credible elections across the state was highlighted.
“The INEC delegation was led by Prof. Abayomi Salami, the Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) who congratulated the CP on his appointment and asked for the continued collaboration and support of the Command as preparations for the 2027 General Elections gather momentum,” a statement said.
In his response, CP Fatai said synergy among the relevant institutions was key to strengthen democratic governance and boost public confidence in the electoral process.
He also assured the INEC of the command’s readiness to provide the needed security support within the law.
“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, reiterated the readiness of the Command to give adequate security support and respond positively to all lawful requests by INEC in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities,” the statement read.
The police commissioner also stressed the need for inter-agency cooperation in the maintenance of peace and order before, during and after elections in the state.
