The lawmaker representing Sokoto South Senatorial District, Aminu Tambuwal, has withdrawn from the race ahead of the 2027 election.

Tambuwal’s withdrawal was said to have led to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) adopting the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Faruk Yabo, as a consensus candidate.

In the same vein, Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, the former Deputy Governor under Tambuwal during his time as Sokoto State Governor, has emerged as the ADC consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election in the state.

Recall that before the 2023 general election, Tambuwal, a presidential aspirant under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), withdrew in favour of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.

In other news, Atiku recently dismissed the influence of top Northern politicians, including former governors Rabiu Kwankwaso, Tambuwal and Nasir El-Rufai.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ programme, Atiku claimed he is the most popular northern politician.

Atiku, while reviewing the impact of important northern politicians, asserted that no present or future leader in the region equals his political reach and support.

The ADC chieftain said the key Northern politicians are popular but none has a wider voter base across the North as he does.

He also said Kwankwaso’s influence is still largely limited to Kano State, noting that even in the state, political support is now split between him and Governor Abba Yusuf.
