Saleh Mamman, the former Minister of Power, was detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after being found guilty and sentenced by the Federal High Court in Abuja for allegedly embezzling money while in office.
Mamman’s detention was verified by EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Along with two people who were allegedly protecting him from authorities, he was reportedly captured in Kaduna.
The anti-graft bureau is also investigating the home where the arrest occurred.
From August 2019 to September 2021, he was Minister of Power.
Following his nomination by President Muhammadu Buhari and Senate confirmation, he was sworn in on August 21, 2019.
Buhari fired Mamman on September 1, 2021, and Abubakar Aliyu, the Minister of State for Works and Housing, took over.
The Federal High Court of Nigeria found Saleh guilty of fraud and money laundering involving approximately 33.8 billion naira ($24.7 million) in May 2026 and sentenced him to 75 years in jail.
