Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has warned ex-President, Goodluck Jonathan, to resist the pressure from political elites and Nigerians to contest in the 2027 general elections.
It was learnt that Lamido in a post on his Facebook page described the current political atmosphere in the country as murky and filled with unserious, self-seeking and self-serving characters.
One of the founding members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Lamido, urged Jonathan not to yield to the calls of ego-caress, insisting that he should remain partisan.
In his view, while the calls for Jonathan’s return might be appreciated, they are a “desperation call” without substance and long-term vision.
Lamido said the increasing calls for Jonathan to re-enter active politics were more about frustration with the country’s present problems than a well-structured political ideology.
He wrote, “Former President Jonathan knows his status in Nigeria as a Leader being a Former President therefore he is a sovereign symbol. He is also in the rank of global alumni of world leaders. It is unfair and ill opportune to drag his person into the current murky political arena populated by unserious self seeking and self serving characters barely a week to the closing of nomination of candidates to run for various positions in the 2027 general elections.
This is more so with the splintered political Parties we have, deficient in ideology beyond power grab! The call for President Jonathan to jump into the political arena no matter how well intentioned was borne out of the helplessness and hopelessness Nigeria has found itself. For NOW, President Jonathan needs to maintain his dignified posture as our sovereign ownership.
“The call is appreciated, but it’s a desperation call with no depth beyond being a ventilator of frustration. This ego caress call must not fool President Jonathan! “We can save him for later.”
