Segun Showunmi, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has dismissed the notion that one term is sufficient for any President to solve the problems facing the country.
Showunmi’s comment comes as the country approaches the 2027 general elections with some presidential aspirants saying they would fix Nigeria’s challenges in one term.
However, Showunmi said during an interview on TVC on Thursday that anybody suggesting a single term to solve Nigeria’s problems is a liar or a fraud.
Showumi cited the case of the former President, Goodluck Jonathan, saying the claim is impossible.
“Anyone who says one term is okay for them to take care of all the challenges bedevilling us as a nation is either a liar or a fraud,” he said.
They tell you how easy it is to do a very difficult job, but they won’t tell you how they’re going to do it.
Goodluck Jonathan, who took over power from Umaru Yar’Adua, was the one that could have made it for us to believe that it’s possible.
“He served that tenure and ran his legitimate own from 2011-2015. How easy it was for us to get him to do that extra one.
“Just trying to force him and on the strength of trying to complete two terms was the reason that destroyed one of the major parties that has not recovered till today.”
