Following violent altercations at the PDP’s Wadata Plaza national secretariat in Abuja, the Turaki-led leadership of the party postponed its first National Working Committee meeting on Tuesday.
The conference has been rescheduled for Wednesday, November 19, 2025, according to National Chairman Kabiru Turaki, who eventually entered the troubled complex with governors and prominent party officials.
“Deliberate attempts by individuals undermining democracy and progress” to interrupt the event, he claimed, prompted the decision.
Turaki praised the Federal Capital Territory Police Command for what he called “professional security support,” which allowed his team to enter the building in spite of prior opposition.
“The security provided allowed us to enter the secretariat,” he stated.
“I appreciate the FCT Commissioner of Police honoring his pledge. Those who persistently threaten our party’s unity, peace, and stability are to blame for the disturbance we saw today.
He continued by saying that he had informed the police in advance that people “no longer recognized by the party” were distributing posters announcing concurrent NEC and Board of Trustees meetings.
Turaki was accompanied by a powerful group that included state chairmen, previous governors, former ministers, members of the Board of Trustees, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, and members of the National Assembly.
He claimed that the attendance showed support for the recently established NWC.
Speaking to reporters, Turaki maintained that despite growing internal conflict, the PDP was still dedicated to bringing stability back.
The meeting is scheduled for tomorrow. In order for the party to regain its status as a national institution, we are committed to reestablishing unity and fortifying it,” he declared.
An already unstable leadership crisis that has divided the PDP into two opposing factions is made worse by the postponement.
The party’s removal of former national secretary Samuel Anyanwu is the cause of the unrest; Wike-aligned forces vehemently disagree, insisting he stay in position until December.
According to Turaki’s group, Anyanwu and his supporters were no longer party officials after the national convention in Ibadan on Saturday.
