Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has condemned the reported proposal of N100,000 minimum wage by state governors, saying the sum is not enough for the needs of Nigerian workers.

The remarks were made in a statement posted on Sowore’s official page.

Sowore argued that the proposed wage is below the cost of living in the country and would not be enough for workers with increasing expenses, according to the statement.

“Just hours after we made a proposal for a living wage for Nigerian workers, the governors have reportedly responded with their own proposal of a N100,000 minimum wage.

These governors know very well that no worker can survive decently on ₦100,000 per month in Nigeria today. That amount can hardly buy a bag of rice, let alone pay for housing, transportation, health care, education, utilities, and other basic necessities.

They know how hard workers have it but still they give them poverty wages and live high off the public dole.

A minimum wage should ensure dignity, not eternal suffering,” the statement read.
