Four National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and two others died in a tragic road accident involving a military gun truck and a commercial bus in Adamawa State.

The Adamawa State Police Command disclosed that the fatal crash happened on Wednesday at the Narehi area in Girei Local Government Area along the Girei-Song Road.

The “accident involved a military gun truck on the way from Gombi to Yola and a commercial Hummer bus carrying five passengers from Yola to Mubi,” Suleiman Nguroje, the command’s spokesman, said in a statement.

Nguroje said preliminary investigations showed that the two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision which led to the commercial bus somersaulting and bursting into flames.

“Early investigations indicate that both vehicles collided head-on, resulting in the commercial bus overturning and burning,” the statement said.

It said all the five passengers on the Hummer bus were burnt to death after the vehicle caught fire after the collision, stressing that preliminary identification showed that four of the deceased were serving NYSC members posted to Adamawa State.

The victims have been identified as Suleuman Juliet and Usman Shuaibu, both from Kaduna State, while efforts are ongoing to identify the remaining victims.

The command also confirmed that a military personnel attached to the gun truck died in the accident and that the corpses have been evacuated to the Specialist Hospital, Yola, while efforts are ongoing to identify the remaining bodies and locate their families.

The Adamawa State Commissioner of Police has commiserated with the bereaved families, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the NYSC and all those touched by the tragedy.
