The All Progressives Congress, APC, Osun State chapter, has challenged the Ademola Adeleke-led administration to provide evidence of claims that security drones bought by the last administration have disappeared.

The opposition party said it was not true that five drones bought during the government of former governor Adegboyega Oyetola could not be located and should be supported by official records.

The controversy followed a statement by the governor’s spokesperson Olawale Rasheed, who revealed that the Adeleke administration could not trace five security drones allegedly paid for under the previous administration.

He added that the government was thinking of procuring new drones to bolster security operations across the state.

Osun APC spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, responding to the allegation, said the party rejected the claims and urged residents not to be misled by what it described as inaccurate information.

Olabisi said “the Adeleke administration should be focusing on the security challenges that are currently afflicting the state rather than blaming its problems on decisions that were allegedly taken by a previous government.

He insisted that the immediate past governor, Oyetola, did not buy any drones during his four-year tenure and challenged the state government to produce documentary evidence if such purchases were made.

Olabisi said: “The public should discountenance this blatant lie being peddled by this Governor Adeleke about the purchase of the drones by the former Governor Oyetola in order to misinform the unsuspecting members of the public to score a cheap political point.

The APC spokesman berated the governor’s handling of the matter, saying it was unnecessary to keep referring to the previous administration after more than three years in office.

“We thought that the beleaguered Governor Adeleke would stop running his administration with lies and subterfuge towards the tail end of his administration that is winding up in November this year, but unfolding events have shown that it is pretty impossible for a leopard to change its colour,” he added.

Olabisi also urged residents to hold the present administration accountable for ensuring security across the state, stressing that the government in power bears the responsibility of safeguarding lives and property.
