Paul Ibeh, the media assistant to former vice president Atiku Abubakar, accused President Bola Tinubu and the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, of trying to undermine Nigeria’s opposition and democracy on Tuesday.
The declaration is made when David Mark’s ADC leadership is being frozen by INEC.
According to presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, Ibeh claimed in a post on X that Nafiu Bala’s nomination as the ADC national chairman was influenced by the President and INEC.
He questioned the development and asked what had changed, pointing out that INEC had previously filed court suits challenging Bala’s eligibility for the ADC presidency.
Ibeh accused Tinubu and Amupitan of organizing what he called a “democratic faux pas” and cautioned that such actions would amount to a trend toward dictatorship.
He continued by saying that the current situation is similar to prior political developments in Nigeria.
“Bayo Onanuga is posting on his X account that Nafiu Bala is now the ADC Chairman because his Tinubu’s @NGRPresident and Amupitan’s @inecnigeria are in bed with Bala to annihilate the opposition and inevitably subvert Nigeria’s democracy,” he stated.
Last year, this INEC filed a lawsuit to show why Bala shouldn’t be the ADC Chairman. What has changed since then? “Tinubu and Amupitan are preparing the democratic faux pas. We inform them that while this dictatorship may persist, it won’t last long. Does this remind you of another time in our recent history?
