Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, a former governor of Sokoto State and senator from Sokoto South, has reportedly joined the African Democratic Congress, according to a group of the party in Sokoto State, which claims there is no documentation of his membership in the state.

According to reports, the group claimed that Tambuwal had joined the party without following the correct procedure and that the Sokoto party leadership had not been notified in writing.

According to the faction, which is headed by Umar Faruk, the state chairman, party membership must start at the ward level.

The leadership claims that in order for the party to recognize a new member, they must first register in their district.

In a statement issued on Thursday by Murtala Aliyu, the party’s publicity secretary, the group stated that party officials in Tambuwal’s ward and local government area were checked.

The officials claimed to be unaware of the previous governor’s party affiliation.

According to the statement, the party leadership got in touch with Aminu Tambari, the party chairman in Tambuwal Local Government Area, as well as the ADC chairperson in Tambuwal Ward.

According to reports, both party representatives stated they were unaware of any information indicating Tambuwal had joined the ADC.

According to the faction, it is explicitly stated in the party’s constitution that membership cannot be negotiated through individuals outside of the ward organization or in private.

It clarified that before being admitted, each new member must go through the ward chairman and finish the necessary steps.

According to the statement, “the leadership of the party in the ward and local government where Senator Tambuwal hails confirmed that they were neither informed nor consulted about the alleged defection, as required by the party’s constitution and procedures.”
