Following a violent confrontation on one of its flights on Monday, social media icons Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, and Freedom Atsepoyi, better known as Mr. Jollof, publicly apologized to United Nigeria Airlines.
The altercation, which happened at the Asaba International Airport while boarding, caused people to become terrified and spurred a larger discussion about aircraft safety and passenger conduct in Nigeria.
United Nigeria Airlines said in a statement issued on Thursday that it had examined and accepted the two’s social media apologies.
“United Nigeria Airlines recognizes and accepts the public apologies issued by VeryDarkMan and Mr. Jollof following the onboard altercation that occurred during the boarding of Flight UN0523 from Asaba International Airport to Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on November 17, 2025,” the airline said.
We are aware of their social media pledges to abstain from any behavior that would jeopardize aviation safety, order, or decorum on flights operated by United Nigeria Airlines or any other airline.
“We hope that this commitment will be upheld in order to ensure that every passenger travels in a courteous, safe, and organized manner.”
In order to reduce disruptive passenger behavior across the country, the airline reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with Nigeria’s Airline Operators and pertinent regulatory bodies.
Videos of the two guys fighting inside the cabin and exchanging blows have gone viral on social media, prompting crew members to step in while worried passengers watched.
The airline verified that both guys were disembarked and turned over to security personnel at the airport in Asaba.
It was understood that a long-running online dispute from 2024—during which VeryDarkMan had openly threatened to assault Mr. Jollof “on sight”—was the catalyst for the altercation.
A clearly hurt VeryDarkMan apologized to travelers and airline employees in an apologetic video that was uploaded on Tuesday.
For what transpired on United Nigeria Airlines yesterday, I sincerely apologize. I will accept full responsibility for what transpired yesterday because it was not intended to happen,” he stated.
He apologized to every passenger, including those who had medical emergencies or crucial appointments postponed due to the disturbance, while sporting bandages on his arm and head.
Additionally, he expressed regret to “all the mothers, all the daddies, all the uncles, all the younger ones” who were on board.
He acknowledged that he behaved “irresponsibly,” but he did not rule out future conflicts while promising that such situations would never happen in public areas like buses or airplanes.
Mr. Jollof apologizes, saying, “I Was Defending Myself.”
Additionally, Mr. Jollof apologized publicly on Instagram, stating that he is “not a violent person” and that his actions were solely self-defense.
“I would like to use this opportunity to express my heartfelt regret to the NCAA, United Nigeria Airlines, and the travelers. I just wanted to protect myself. “I apologize deeply if I caused you to miss your appointment,” he continued.
He claimed to have even bitten VeryDarkMan to defend himself during the altercation.
“I know my wonderful wife is proud of me. “And to my children, I apologize; my father will never do this again,” he continued.
The incident was denounced by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority through Michael Achimugu, Acting Director of Public Affairs, who called it a “serious infraction” that puts lives in danger.
Achimugu issued a warning that disruptive behavior in airplane cabins could result in criminal charges and even jail time.
He emphasized that confrontations, acts of violence, or actions endangering the safety of passengers and personnel are completely forbidden under aviation laws.
In order to preserve the integrity and safety of air travel, United Nigeria Airlines asked passengers to completely comply with flight attendants, airport authorities, and security agencies.
The airline stated that it is still dedicated to creating a safe workplace and would keep implementing stringent procedures to stop similar accidents from happening again.
