Ahmed Audi, the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), officially resigned from his position on Friday after reaching the necessary retirement age.

At the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja, events honoring the 2026 World Civil Defence Day honored Audi’s last day in office.

According to reports, Audi took office on March 1, 2021, after former President Muhammadu Buhari appointed him.

His departure ends nearly five years of leadership at the head of the paramilitary organization, which is responsible for disaster relief, civil defense, and the safeguarding of vital national infrastructure and assets.

At the time this report was filed, the Federal Government had not yet named his replacement.

Observed annually to raise awareness of the value of emergency response and civil protection, World Civil Defence Day fell on the same day as Audi’s retirement.

In addition to celebrating the event, which served as a symbolic farewell for the departing Commandant-General, colleagues and senior commanders gathered at the headquarters.

Audi was born on September 30, 1967, in Nasarawa State. He graduated from the University of Calabar with a Master’s degree in Public Business Administration and Nasarawa State University in Keffi with a PhD in Public Administration.

Additionally, he is a member of the National Institute (mni), a major professional association in Nigerian government service.

Since he left, focus has turned to the Federal Government’s next step in selecting a new NSCDC leader, with interested parties anticipating a formal announcement in the days ahead.
