Festus Okoye, a former National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, claims that internet access is available in every polling station in Nigeria.
Okoye revealed this information on Tuesday during a monitored interview on Trust TV.
He was discussing the national discussion surrounding the National Assembly’s modification to the Electoral Act, which President Bola Tinubu had signed.
“Power banks and other accessories are included with every INEC machine for the election,” he declared.
“Now, the Presiding Officer has snapped the EC8A, which keeps the information when there is no network at that specific moment after the polls are over. As soon as it makes contact with the network, it starts transmitting.
Therefore, unless he has a network, the Presiding Officer cannot reverse what he has entered. No, this whole network issue is pointless, in my opinion.
There isn’t a single polling station in this nation without a network. Never. Don’t worry about any of these network connectivity issues. It’s merely a weak justification.
“The Commission held elections in various locations prior to the deployment of iReV and uploaded polling unit-level results using its result viewing portal.”
