The Anambra State Assembly has indicated that it will remove the suspension imposed on Bernard Udemezue, the representative for the Ayamelum State Constituency.
In August 2025, Udemezue was suspended because to allegations that he posted on social media that disclosed specific details about the House’s operations, such as member allowances and emoluments.
In defense, the congressman said that his actions were justified by his pledge to his voters that, should he be elected, he would maintain an open door policy and provide any necessary accounting of his stewardship, including disclosing his salary.
He was suspended for six months at first, but after that time he tried to return, but he was kicked out for three more months for failing to follow the protocol, which calls for an apology to the House.
On Wednesday, Somtochukwu Udeze, the Speaker of the Assembly, instructed the House Committee on Rules, Ethics, and Privileges to examine the suspension.
During plenary, Udeze gave the committee, led by Majority Leader Ikenna Ofodeme, the urgent job of reexamining the issue in accordance with the House decision and reporting back to the Assembly on the next day of adjournment.
The Speaker stated that the committee will evaluate the suspension and determine whether the affected member complied with the suspension.
He stated that the committee will examine these and submit a report to the House for deliberation and recommendations on the next adjourned date.
On February 26, 2026, Udemezue is anticipated to complete his ban.
