In the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra, a tanker exploded on the Ihiala-Onitsha Road across from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) headquarters on Sunday, killing two people.
Journalists in Awka received confirmation of the occurrence from Mrs. Bridget Asekhauno, Sector Commander (FRSC) in Anambra.
According to Asekhauno, a motorcycle without a registration number and a commercial tanker carrying flammable material were engaged in the event.
According to witnesses, the speeding tanker driver lost control and collided with a roadside barricade before an explosion happened, affecting a motorcycle that was following.
The motorbike rider was injured and saved, but the tanker driver and his conductor were killed in the explosion.
Three adult males were engaged in the collision; two of them were reported dead, and one of the injured was sent to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Ihiala for medical attention.
“FRSC rescue operatives and fire service personnel responded quickly to the incident and successfully put out the fire,” the sector commander added.
In order to prevent preventable collisions, she expressed her condolences to the families of the deceased and advised drivers to rigorously follow speed restrictions and pay close attention when driving.
