Nasir El-Rufai, a former Kaduna State governor, has predicted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will probably run in 2027.

Speaking at the 23rd Daily Trust Dialogue, which had as its theme “Nigeria’s Fourth Republic: What Is Working and What Is Not,” El-Rufai reportedly stated that political power in Nigeria is still up for debate.
El-Rufai pointed out that the APC will not be in power indefinitely, just as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ruled Nigeria for 16 years before losing it.

In contrast to certain other nations with dominant-party systems, Nigeria’s democratic experience is unique on the African continent, according to the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

“It is an accomplishment that Nigeria does not have a permanent ruling party,” he declared.

“The PDP held power for 16 years. The APC’s rule won’t last forever. It is anticipated that the APC will disappear by 2027.

Therefore, power is still contested. This sets Nigeria apart from other parts of the continent with dominating party systems.

El-Rufai emphasized that political competition has not yet resulted in accountability or good government, pointing out that Nigerian political parties are still weak and “personality-driven and transactional.”

“Accountability and good governance have not yet developed from competition,” he stated.

The former governor expressed regret for missing the occasion in Abuja while speaking from Brussels, Belgium, where he claimed to be recuperating from illness.
