President Bola Tinubu is still actively involved in national matters, according to the All Progressives Congress (APC), which has rejected allegations that he is AWOL or missing from government.

The ruling party’s response came after remarks attributed to Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential contender, who questioned the President’s visibility and presence in light of Nigeria’s security and economic difficulties.

President Tinubu was neither absent nor disregarding his constitutional duties, according to a statement released by the APC on Tuesday, January 13, and made accessible to Lagos reporters by its Lagos State Spokesman, Seye Oladejo.

Oladejo claims that the President continues to be actively involved in the intricate process of governing both domestically and internationally.

Oladejo declared, “The President is neither absent nor missing from his constitutional responsibilities.”

He clarified that public appearances and continuous media attention shouldn’t be the only aspects of administration.

He stated, “He is actively involved in the complex and demanding work of statecraft, which includes economic reforms, diplomatic engagements, security oversight, and policy coordination.”

“Governance is not measured by constant public appearances or media check-ins,” Oladejo continued. It is evaluated based on how well decisions are made, policies are put into place, and results are produced in the best interests of the country.

Tinubu Concentrated on National Goals
The APC spokesperson emphasized that President Tinubu has continued to carry out his responsibilities with dedication and determination, firmly adhering to the mandate that Nigerians have given him.

According to Oladejo, “his schedule and engagements are driven by national priorities, not the need to satisfy political commentary.”

In order to reposition Nigeria for sustained prosperity and increased global significance, he pointed out that the administration has continued to be active in a number of important areas, including international diplomacy, economic reforms, and security cooperation.

Oladejo called on opposition leaders and political leaders to interact more positively by presenting options and solutions that would promote the growth of the country.

He cautioned that unwarranted conjecture over the President’s location could exacerbate public unease during a crucial period.

He suggested that “political actors should focus on issues of substance rather than optics.”

According to reports, Peter Obi had inquired about President Tinubu’s whereabouts amid what he called growing economic hardship, insecurity, and a lack of leadership.

Obi expressed his worries in a post on his verified 𝕏 (previously Twitter) account on Monday, citing the severity of the nation’s problems and what he saw as the lack of direct presidential involvement.

He said that President Tinubu traveled outside of Nigeria for 196 days in 2025, which was more than the President’s time spent inside the nation.

Additionally, Obi asserted that since December 2025, Nigerians have not had direct communication from the President.

As part of his year-end vacation and in advance of an official visit to the United Arab Emirates, President Tinubu left Lagos on December 28 for Europe.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the president of the United Arab Emirates, asked the president to take part in the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.

Tinubu’s arrival in Abu Dhabi on Sunday and his attendance at the event, which started on Monday, highlight his ongoing involvement in talks on global sustainability and foreign diplomacy.
