On Tuesday, some political thugs broke into the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, where the party was holding a stakeholders’ meeting.

As the next ward, local government, and state congresses to elect new executives approached, tensions inside the ruling party reportedly increased, leading to the incident.

It was discovered that the attack caused multiple members to sustain injuries and compelled party officials to escape for their lives.

The conference was thrown into chaos and panic broke out within the premises as the attackers allegedly followed participants indiscriminately.

According to witnesses who talked to The Nation, the violence started when the party leaders, officials, and delegates had gathered to talk about internal issues.

But while discussions were going on, the attackers infiltrated the party’s secretariat with machetes, planks, shattered bottles, stones, and other potentially harmful items.

When the attackers struck, members had already taken up residence, according to a party official who spoke on condition of the aforementioned publication.

He stated, “They came with weapons and began threatening everyone, so we had to flee for our lives.” When we were trying to flee, some of us got hurt. People who drove to the event quickly left to avoid damaging their cars.

Steve Otaloro, the APC’s Ondo State Director of Media and Publicity, verified the occurrence and stated that more information would be released later.
