Bilyaminu Moriki, the speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, and twelve other legislators have switched from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

After submitting resignation papers on behalf of the legislators, Moriki declared the defection during Monday’s Gusau plenary.

This comes after Governor Dauda Lawal recently switched from the PDP to the APC.

The governor and the lawmakers who are defecting will be formally welcomed into the APC on Tuesday, March 24.

Deputy Speaker Adamu Aliyu of the Gummi II Constituency, Majority Leader Bello Mazawaje of the Tsafe East Constituency, and Chief Whip Rilwanu Nagambo of the Anka Constituency are among those who defected.

According to Moriki, the choice was made in order to support the governor and further the state’s development.

“Our decision is intended to promote seamless cooperation between the federal and state governments,” he stated.

The APC currently controls the entire Zamfara State House of Assembly as a result of the defection.
