Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has been urged by Senator Barau I. Jibrin, the Deputy President of the Senate, to refrain from making security matters political and instead concentrate on resolving the state’s challenges.
Senator Barau was responding to assertions that the Kano State Government had made following its 34th Executive Council Meeting. One of his remarks could undermine ongoing security operations, according to the administration. Barau denied those accusations and emphasized that everyone must work together to address the nation’s insecurity, which includes bandit assaults in some areas of Kano.
In a statement sent by his media assistant, Ismail Mudashir, the senator refuted the charge and demanded proof from the government.
“False, reckless, and malicious claims by the Kano State Government that His Excellency… made a statement capable of undermining the security efforts in the state have caught the attention of the media office of the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I Jibrin, CFR, FCNA,” he stated.
“It is regrettable that the state government has reduced governance to this level by creating and fabricating lies to damage the growing reputation of the Deputy President of the Senate,” he continued. Senator Barau never said anything that could jeopardize security efforts.
In order to combat insecurity in Kano and throughout Nigeria, Barau claimed he has always collaborated with pertinent parties. “We challenge them to produce the clip in which the Deputy President of the Senate made any statement that could undermine security efforts,” he continued, issuing yet another challenge to the government.
The senator, who also serves as the ECOWAS Parliament’s First Deputy Speaker, urged Governor Yusuf to prioritize governance.
“Our beloved state, Kano, used to be very close second to Lagos in terms of prosperity, but unfortunately, misgovernance has eroded this,” he stated.
“We have everything necessary to restore the glorious days of our state, but the governor is not taking steps in that direction,” he continued, adding that Kano may regain its former splendor provided the appropriate choices are made.
A number of security initiatives that Barau has backed in the state were also mentioned.
He has established police stations in various locations, rebuilt portions of the state police headquarters, and supplied cars to police formations and motorcycles for Kano North officers. The Department of State Services (DSS) in Kano has also received his support.
The Nigeria Police Service Commission training institute in Kabo, the Nigeria Immigration Service training school in Bichi, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) training college in Gwarzo have all been established thanks to the Deputy President of the Senate, according to the statement.
Additionally, he erected solar lamps in numerous towns to support nighttime patrols by security services.
Rather than disparaging Senator Barau’s reputation, the statement concluded that he has made “significant contributions” to enhancing security in Kano and urged the state administration to do the same.
